Happy Leo Season everybody!

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

As I’m typing, I’m cooking in the sun on my balcony. My iPad is getting pretty hot and I’m hoping she doesn’t overheat on me. Also, I burnt my hand pretty good on the first day of Leo Season…are these signs of how this Leo season is gonna go for me? I digress.

Leo and I have a complicating relationship. It’s one of those signs I thought I hated before I learned more about astrology. I always thought, ‘them are some arrogant A-holes.’ Truth is, there is so much more to Leo than the stereotype. We all have Leo in us (some more than others). We just have to learn how to cultivate that fiery energy and embrace that side of ourselves! To be well balanced human beings we need Spirit, Earth, Water, Air, and FIRE!

In this article, we will dive into Leo’s traits and how we can best flow with their energies this season (July 23rd-August 22nd).

Let’s get it started!!

Keep in mind, this Leo perspective is coming from a person with no planets in Leo. A person who doesn’t have a single planet in any of the fire signs! A perspective from a watery puddle of despair!!

What can we learn from Fixed Fire, Leo?

Keywords:

Fires signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) are all Assertive, Courageous, and Passionate, think…literal fire!

What makes Leo unique?

Of all the fire signs, Leo is the most charismatic, expressive, and playful.

The Shadow Side:

Leo can be associated with big ego’s and drama. But life is all about finding that balance!

‘Feeling yourself’ is often considered egotistical. We are conditioned to always be humble and do whatever it takes to support our family, friends, and neighbors. This is important, but feeling ourselves is equally as important. Loving ourselves is not only healthy, it’s essential! Inner fire is a key component in achieving true self love. If we don’t take care of ourselves, we will burn out.

And being dramatic is not a bad thing either! It’s how we make an impact. It’s how we get people to listen to us. It’s how we tell our stories effectively! Who doesn’t love a good drama? Last night I started The Last Dance (The Chicago Bull’s documentary) and holy Leo Fire Passion Drama! I’m hooked on their story!! Again, it’s all about balance though. Too much fire and things get out of control.

Leo’s Symbol: The Lion

I’ve always been afraid of Lions. As a kid I was afraid of every animal actually. It’s funny…scary movies didn’t scare me, but the Lion in Jumanji scared the shit out of me. Even the Lion King scared me! I didn’t understand why other kids loved the Lion King so much; it made me cry every single time I watched it. The power, the masculinity, the betrayal! It was overwhelming for my watery ass.

Over the years I’ve learned that this fear stems from me being afraid to step into my power. I don’t have that natural Leo energy in me that commands the room. Even more general than that, I don’t have that fiery passion to push me forward in life. Sure, I can be playful and dramatic; I can have fun! Play, drama, and other Leo themes are also associated with the 5th house. I have Mars in Gemini in the 5th house and Mars points to where we take action in life. So I take action and communicate with others in humorous and fun ways! But I don’t know how to tap into the assertive, courageous, fiery side of myself. I’m afraid of that side, actually.

My Leo Season 2020 goal is to take chances, be bold, be fierce, and stand up for what I believe! (even if I cry in the process)

How will you be tapping into Leo energy?

I extra Leo Season connection, I built an altar with items that connect me to the spirit of Leo.

Leo Season Altar Photo
Skeleton Taking a Selfie: Tile From New Mexico
My mom got me this tile in New Mexico. It kind of looks like me from a few years ago, when I was obsessed with taking selfies.
Ceramic Witch Goddess; Popsicle Sticker; and Oracle Card "I am safe to be my true authentic self". All Items From This That and These Shop
The witch goddess I bought from This That and These. She came with an oracle card and a Popsicle sticker. I think I’ll keep these little guys on the altar for the rest of the year actually!
Photo of a "Say their names" (Fist) pin.
Activist pin I bought from Dapper Dolphin (they just changed their name to Self Love Tool Chest). This pin is my reminder to continue on the anti-racism journey and continue fighting the fight for more equality in this country.
Strength Oceanic Tarot Card
Strength is the Tarot Card associated with Leo. This card comes from the Oceanic Tarot Deck by Jayne Wallace
Lion King Photo Album
I found this old Lion King Photo Album on my book shelf. This is a reminder to embrace my fear of the Lion Fiery side and remember that the Lioness is the ultimate mother. (Check out Cosmic Cousins Instagram for a wonderful post on how Leo evolves from Cancer)
Picture of Little Emmy with Birds In The Background
This little photo came from the Lion King Photo Album. It is a reminder of the crippling fear of animals I had in childhood and how my Leo Moon mother helped me to overcome this fear by setting me up the Kindergarten teacher that loved all animals (especially birds). No fear is uncontrollable.
