Uranus has been retrograde in Taurus since August 15th 2020. During this time, we experienced heavy re-evaluations on what it means to be safe and secure; what it means to be free; and what is worth fighting for and rebelling against.
Now that Uranus is moving direct in Taurus again, we will still be focusing on these themes; but, rather than re-evaluating and reflecting, we will be acting on them.
Estimated reading time: 16 minutes
Keywords to keep in mind as you read this article:
Taurus:
Stability
Security
Persistence
Uranus:
Unpredictability
Freedom
Rebellion

Chester Bennington – Uranus in Scorpio in the 1st House (Identified as an uncomfortable, angsty, and rebellious dad among many other things.)
If you’re like Chester (and me) and have Uranus in the first house, you are extremely familiar with Uranus and it’s battle against your identity and what you truly need to feel free to express yourself. One minute you think you have it all figured out and the next, you are back to being the freaky weirdo who has no clue who they are or why they’re even here on this Earth plane. The desire for freedom of self expression is a top priority for those with Uranus in the 1st house…and getting there is never easy…if it can even be done at all.
Mike Shinoda – Uranus in Scorpio in the 2nd House (Values art, thoughtful aggression, uniqueness, choppiness, energy, and badass break beats.)
Daron Malakian -Uranus in Libra in the 5th House (Creatively writes about war, rebellion, and social justice.)
“We are the fortunate ones
Linkin Park – Rebellion (feat Daron Malakian)
Who’ve never faced, oppression’s gun
We are the fortunate ones
Imitations of rebellion”
A couple things came to me when hearing these lyrics…conflicting things, honestly. I figured in order to make this complicating topic clear and concise, I’d look up the definition of oppression, imitation, and rebellion for us to reference.
Oppression: “the state of being subject to unjust treatment or control.”
Imitation: “the action of using someone or something as a model.”
Rebellion: “an act of violent or open resistance to an established government or ruler.”
I wonder, why does one rebel in the first place? I wonder why I specifically am so drawn to uniqueness and being a “rebel”. Does one have to experience oppression for themselves in order to fight for change? Or can one see the constant hurt, pain, and unfairness that others experience and then want to fight for them? Do people only help others when it benefits them somehow? Or do people have the capacity to be selfless and fight for a better society for everyone – regardless of class, gender, and race? What actually is oppression and who truly experiences it?
Mostly I thought, does being told to wear a mask in public make you oppressed and constitute forming a rebellion? This lyric really hits hard when you’re looking at it from this perspective. In my opinion, we are fortunate to not have armed guards outside of our houses, forcing us to stay inside. It is not worth rebelling against your government because they asked you to wear a mask in order to help your neighbor survive. Key word: ASKED! Too many people in America are still not wearing masks, and you don’t see our police beating those people down and forcing them to put one on.
Here’s one of the many examples…in case you didn’t see this
So I ask these questions to get you to think deeper. What is oppression? Have you experienced it? Have you physically witnessed it being thrust upon others? Or have you simply only heard the stories? Are you fighting to stop oppression? Or are you fighting to do whatever you want whenever you want? Or are you just trying to look cool and don’t even actually care about justice? Where is the line? I know everything is on a sliding scale and nothing is simple…but we have to ask ourselves, what, why and who are we fighting for?
Interpret these lyrics however you choose and let me know if something else comes to you when you listen to this song. It’s past time for us to work together and think deeper – together. Keep in mind this song was released in 2014. Daron often writes about the devastating Armenian genocide and the current oppression they face to this day. I couldn’t find what exactly sparked this particular song, but that makes it even better. I can attach my own meaning to it. Personally I noticed this song was released a few months before Michael Brown was shot and killed in Ferguson MO. I didn’t know much of anything about oppression until that horrific murder. It was just a distant concept that I saw in movies or on the news. Even in 2014, my white self was privileged enough to sit back and watch the riots on TV. Even though they were happening 20 minutes over the river from where I worked; I stayed safely inside and hoped they wouldn’t work their way over to me.
Remember rebellion: what is it and why are you doing it?
There’s a difference in rebelling against the establishment because it’s cool and trendy vs because it’s all you have left to do in order to stay alive and keep your family and friends safe.
Uranus- the planet of rebellion, appears somewhere in all of our birth charts and is important to note; but, in this article we will be focusing more on this current Uranus transit and its direct motion in Taurus. This creative, freedom loving, unpredictable planet is ready to tear up whatever we have residing in the Taurus parts of our natal charts.
When Uranus was retrograde these past few months, the focus was on releasing these themes. See my post on 2020s Uranus Retrograde in Taurus here:
Some key takeaways from the above Uranus Retrograde in Taurus post were:
Re-evaluate the fight.
What causes are you supporting as you rebel against society? We know a rebellion needs to happen now, but why? Reconnect with your why. Why are you fighting the fight your fighting? What are you standing up for? Some of us lose sight of the “why” in all the chaos. Remember the why.
Research the cause.
What new developments are your causes making? What progress have they made so far? Sometimes we get so focused on an end goal that we forget to stop and express gratitude for how far we’ve come. Think about what your cause has accomplished and be proud that you contributed to that progress.
Revisit the original thought.
We are constantly evolving. Some things I believed two years ago, I don’t necessarily believe now. So why am I clinging to those beliefs? What’s wrong with evolving my thought processes?
If you’ve been following the astrological weather (and not fighting it while waiting to get back to normal!) you’re doing the work. This past August until now, you’ve asked yourself these types of questions. You know why you’re fighting. You know what your cause is up to. You know you’ve changed and you’re ready to take that growth and turn that change towards the rest of the world. If you haven’t done this work, remember that it’s never too late.
Now that Uranus is direct again, it’s time to put these evaluations back into action. We don’t know exactly what to expect with Uranus, but we do know we are in the midst of a rebellion. To all those who said “things will be back to normal in 2021”, I’m sorry but that’s just not the case. I’m not sure what normal is (with my natal Uranus on the Ascendant, I’ve never really known) but we will not be experiencing it anytime soon. I say this casually but I’m not taking it lightly. I know we humans love control. Being in unpredictable circumstances is scary, so I hope this next section will shed some light on the area of your life that you may be experiencing the most Uranian unpredictability, rebellion, and intense need for freedom (according to your rising sign).
Keep in mind, this can be negative but this can also be positive. We all have free will and the power to live our lives the way we want to. My only advice is to loosen up control in this area of your life for a while. It’s only gonna be harder for you if you grip on tightly and fight this massive planets influences, alas…you can do whatever you want. Taurus being as stubborn as it is, isn’t going to make releasing control an easy thing to do, so whatever happens – go easy on yourself. Uranus will be here in Taurus until 2025, so we have a long road ahead of us.
1st House – Taurus Risings: Feeling safe to be yourself is important to you. Expressing yourself is how you feel safe. You aren’t typically afraid of speaking up or dressing up and won’t waste time around people who don’t let you be you. But this freedom of self expression may feel shaken up at this point. You’ve had a tough time so far with Uranus in Taurus. Your self worth has really been in question. Who you always knew yourself to be has changed dramatically. Your identity is unpredictable. You’ve seen sides of yourself you never even knew were there. It’s important for you honor all of these sides and to release control over who you thought you were. We are ever changing beings, and you are going through a major shift. Some good aspects and some bad aspects of your personality are coming to the surface. Let them come. Take them as a sign of growth and don’t bog yourself down on identifying a certain way right now.
2nd House – Aries Risings: Feeling safe with your possessions is important to you. You don’t like when people regulate or take away your possessions. This could apply to many things but my mind goes immediately to guns. Maybe you own a gun and believe it’s your right to carry one (think 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms). Your safety often lies somewhere in your possessions. So you can expect a shake up here. Maybe it’s literally with guns, but maybe it’s something else. Your things may get taken away, or they may increase significantly. There’s no telling what exactly will happen, but the key is to loosen up control over the things you own. In reference to the Linkin Park song mentioned above again, “We act it out. We wear the colors. Confined by the things we own.” Separate yourself from your possessions at this time, maybe not literally but figuratively. Who are you without all that stuff weighing you down? Who would you be if you were penniless? Who would you be if you were swimming in green? Would you be the same person?
3rd House – Pisces Risings: Feeling safe to communicate is important to you. You are usually very precise with your words; yet you may feel the need to speak out at this time. All of the oppression you’ve seen…all that bottled up emotions…id ready to come out! You can try to hold back and keep it down but now is not the time. Speak up. We need your voice right now. Just know your words may get you in trouble. But who doesn’t love a little trouble, am I right? 😉
4th House – Aquarius Risings: Feeling safe at home and with family is important to you. You may be experiencing some unexpected circumstances in your house during this time. Maybe with the physical home, but maybe just with family or the friends you’ve adopted as family. Remember that some situations are out of your control. Ground down into the body and remember that home is where the heart is. Wherever you send your love, your feelings of safety will go.
5th House – Capricorn Risings: Feeling safe to play and create is important to you. What you create during this time will produce unpredictable results. This could be positive or negative. It depends how you perceive the results. Sometimes we create things that land and are revolutionary. Sometimes we create things that flop and make us feel self conscious. Regardless, there is beauty in all creation. What doesn’t work now, may work later or may teach you another humbling life lesson. Whatever the case, don’t grip on tightly to your creations during this time. Give in to the unpredictability and be in a flow state. You may like what you find there.
6th House – Sagittarius Risings: Feeling safe and healthy in your mind, body, and soul is important to you. You are a wild soul. You feel safe whether you’re home or not. In fact, traveling is often where you feel the most at peace and traveling is not an option right now (or shouldn’t be, in my opinion…even though I work at a hotel and rely on travel…that’s beside the point). Minding your mental, physical, and spiritual health is important during this time. You won’t be able to travel in the same way as before. You won’t be able to have that Eat Pray Love moment for a while. So channeling your wanderlust into adventurous ways of helping others will be crucial at this time. We all need help with our health right now, and you have the power to help us. When all is lost, you know the way. And when life throws another fork in the road you’ll be there to provide optimism and guidance…or at least you will be there to provide the “fuck it who cares at this point, let’s try this route!” attitude. With the unpredictability ever present, your adventurous helping hand is just what we all need to make it through!
7th House – Scorpio Risings: Feeling safe in your relationships is important to you. An unexpected turn in a relationship may occur for you during this time. Again this could be good or bad; you may find love in an unpredictable lover, or you may come to an unexpected end in a meaningful relationship. Keep in mind, this house doesn’t only represent romantic relationships though. The unpredictable relationship turn could be with a new business partner or a friend. While you are often controlling in this area of your life, you’re passionate and loving nature will finally breakthrough and take over, it’s just a matter of if the other person can handle it or not. Though that my friends, is completely out of your control.
8th House – Libra Risings: Feeling safe to be sexual is important to you. You take your relationships very seriously and usually open up to sexual intimacy quite quickly. Being free to experiment with your body is important; but, here comes the shake up! Sex is a two way street…typically. Try asking your partner what they need or want this time. Release control over your typical way of getting jiggy with it, and get FREAKY with it. Maybe your partner wants to try something you’ve never even considered? Obviously don’t do anything you absolutely don’t want to do; but, if you have a partner you love and trust, you gotta give a little to get a little. Release any expectations and explore.
9th House – Virgo Risings: Feeling safe to teach and learn is important to you. If the teacher ain’t right, you’re out. Same goes for the students; when you’re explaining something to someone and they challenge your knowledge, you can get pretty annoyed. You know how you like to learn and what you like to learn about, but at this time I urge you to learn something unexpected. You’ve mastered your favorite subject. We all know you are smart as hell. Now try something you wouldn’t normally be into. Adventure and exploring doesn’t always have to happen with physical travel. Adding an off beat skill to your resume can bring you much more than brownie points at your job. By releasing control of perfection and learning something that makes you uncomfortable, you may find that little piece of the puzzle you’ve been missing. Or you may just have a shit ton of fun. So why not give it a try?
10th House – Leo Risings: Feeling safe in your career path is important to you. Corona virus has flipped all of our lives upside down and many of us are adjusting to new jobs that we never even wanted. While careers shouldn’t be associated with purpose, oftentimes they are. And having no job, leaves many questioning what they are doing with their lives. If you are jobless at this time, expect a shake up. Maybe you’ll find something even better than what you had before! Or maybe you’ll be doing something unexpected that will make for a great story later on in life. If you still have your job, you can expect a shake up as well. This is not to say you will lose your job, although maybe. We are still not where we need to be in the battle against this virus. Job security is still uncertain. Maybe you will keep your job; yet, your attitude towards it will change completely. If you are feeling stuck, know that you are not stuck. Anything is possible, but it all takes time. Since you can’t control your job at this point, focus on having fun with your family and friends. Get creative and maybe try a family game night via zoom. The job will fall into place eventually. Jobs do not define us.
11th House – Cancer Risings: Feeling collective safety is important to you. Interestingly enough, along with the 11th house being the house of the collective, it is also the house of rebellion and social justice. Cancer rising, you are well aware of what’s going on around you. Making sure everyone feels safe and taken care of is natural for you. You can see when someone is off and you are always right there to help them; but, with rebellious Uranus in this house, the collective rebellion we are all experiencing is ULTRA overwhelming for you. You can’t control the feelings of those around you. I know you want to help them, but right now you just can’t. My advice is to loosen up control and let everyone feel their feelings. Let them cry, let them doubt, and let them be anxious. Instead of focusing so hard on holding space for them, hold space for yourself for once. Let yourself cry, let yourself doubt, and let yourself be anxious. There is beauty in shared anxiety and vulnerability. This too shall pass.
12th House – Gemini Risings: Feeling safe with your deep imagination is important to you. You can be deeply imaginative and creative. You love to explore the deep dark parts of the mind and usually come out with quite profound information after an imaginative exploration (with maybe a hit or two of some good good as well). There is unpredictability in the imaginative subconscious with this transit though. You may have gotten lost behind your rose colored glasses and you’re now seeing the darkest dark parts of your imagination. You may be unsure of how to come back from this darkness. Conspiracy theories are running rampant right now and knowing what to believe is damn near impossible with the internet. I know this sounds depressing and scary but this is what’s coming to me…many brilliant and amazing things come from darkness. Again I’m gonna plug Daron Malakian (WHO ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET, IS ALSO A GEMINI RISING! :O) from the song above and the late great band System of a Down (They aren’t dead, they are just broken up. Which feels like death to me since I am a huge fan.). If you don’t know, System of a Down is a heavy metal band. Heavy metal is misunderstood by many, but to me it‘s this beautiful method of explaining the darkness that overcomes all of us. No ones life is full of rainbows and butterflies 24/7. Darkness is sure to find us all at different points in our lives and when it does, heavy metal will be there to kick us into high gear and keep our asses moving. So give in to the freedom of the imagination, Gemini rising. Don’t fear the darkness you’ve encountered because beautiful things will come from this time. Just keep going.
So there you have it everybody, the unpredictable feelings can lead you to a new/deeper understanding of what it means to feel safe again in this area of your life. Just check in with yourself and let up on the control panel!
