Emmy’s Favorite Cancer Drummers
Although I left some great Cancer drummers out of this favorites list, they are still in the playlist for you to listen to and absorb their energy. My favorites may not be your favorites, but that’s not only A-ok, that’s the beauty of music!
Mick Fleetwood 6-24-1947 (Fleetwood Mac)
First of all, did you know Mick Fleetwood has his own restaurant and music hall? Stereo-typically, Cancers are the nurturers of the zodiac, and what better way for a drummer to nurture others than with food and music?
In this Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar video, when asked if Mick was the leader of the band, he said something about being the cheerleader that never gave it up because he loved it so much (I paraphrased, so please check the full quote in the video above. Timestamp- 5:55). Now we don’t have an accurate birth time for Mick, but we do know he has Mars (the warrior planet) in Taurus (the stubborn bull sign). Which likely represents his “never giving up” energy. But I feel like the key piece of this quote is not that he refused to give up, but that he was the leader of the band because he loved it so much.
Cancer is a cardinal sign, meaning, they are one of the natural leaders of the zodiac. I’ve always seen leadership qualities quite clearly in the other cardinal signs, Aries, Libra, and Capricorn. However, as a Cancer drummer myself, I never really felt like a leader when I was in band. Although I was the section leader at one point, I had a hefty case of imposter syndrome and extreme sensitivity. Despite not wanting to be a tough leader though, I still had a natural ability to lead others because of my compassion and love for the music I was playing.
In other words, Cancers are sensitive and lead with love…even if they come off moody and judgmental sometimes.
Listen to the song Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac and see if you can feel the Cancerian beat pulsing through.
John Dolmayan 7-15-1973 (System of a Down)
As a whisky drinker myself, I found this whole interview video with John Dolmayan interesting. But if you’d like, skip to time stamp: 4:30 for the interview portion of the video (specifically 12:40 for a peek into John’s version of the juicy System of a Down drama).
System of a Down is one of my all time favorite bands. I know it’s not for everyone, as it’s in the heavy metal realm, but I encourage you to give it a chance. Listen to Serj’s beautiful voice of course, but beyond that…listen to the beats. Although all famous drummers are amazing because of their dedication to their craft, John Dolmayan has this next level connection with the rhythm and individual personalities of his band. As a Cancer drummer, John has the ability to not only recognize the drama and ego of the band, but also incorporate it into complex drum patterns.
In fact, Mick Fleetwood has this ability too…. Cancers in general are very in touch with their feelings and the feelings of others. So for these Cancer drummers, it’s only natural that they tap into the emotional realm with every movement.
