Emmy’s Favorite Leo Drummers
Roger Taylor 7-26-1949 (Queen)
Did you know Roger Taylor wrote all of these songs for Queen? In honor of this Leo drummer legend, let’s take a closer look at some of his most Leoan lyrics (is Leoan a word?).
“So don’t become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don’t know, or just don’t care
And just complain when you’re not there
You had your time, you had the power
You’ve yet to have your finest hour”
Radio Gaga
Although I know he’s talking about Pop music, this message can be taken personally as well. It feels very Leo to me because he’s telling us not to be background noise, but to embrace our power instead. For Leo’s, the status quo is not acceptable. Creative power runs naturally through their blood.
“This flame that burns inside of me
I’m hearing secret harmonies
It’s a kind of magic”
A Kind Of Magic
Leo’s are fire signs after all! And we all have Leo somewhere in our natal charts. Where’s Leo in your chart? What does this placement say about your creative fire?
“Sometimes I get the feelin’
I was back in the old days long ago
When we were kids when we were young
Things seemed so perfect – you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young
The sun was always shinin’
We just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately
I just don’t know
The rest of my life’s been just a show
These Are The Days Of Our Lives
Leo’s planetary ruler is the Sun, which makes me think of the Sun card in the Rider Waite Smith tarot deck. It depicts a child on a horse and often symbolizes inner child healing. These lyrics seem like a great ode to all of our inner children.
The other lyric that stands out to me is the one about life being “just a show”. Sometimes we “put on a show” and act a certain way because as adults, we feel like we have to. We think we have to look mature, and like we know what we’re doing, but what if we don’t? What if Leo energy is telling us that it’s OK to be young, dumb, and to just have fun?
Barry Kerch 8-7-1976 (Shinedown)
Whether you are a drum nerd, or an Astrology nerd, this Sound of Madness Drum Tutorial video is for you. As an Astrology nerd, the most interesting thing in this video for me was seeing Barry’s expressions and knowing that he is a Leo drummer. Since I know that Leo’s are known for being expressive, my face lit up after watching him move. He was not only singing along, but also acting out the words while he was laying down the beat. As a drum nerd, it was awesome to see that he could do all this while playing a challenging drum part.
Between Brent’s capricorny determination and mountain climbing metaphors, and Barry’s passionate Leo attributes, this 105.7 the Point interview really struck me.
At one point Barry mentions the bands fragile egos and how this can get in the way sometimes. But he doesn’t bring this up to complain about any one persons ego. He brings it up matter of factly and to show admiration and respect for their producer and bass player Eric Bass.
Since egotistical is a word often associated with Leo, this Leo Drummer’s comment has inspired me to dive deeper into this word for a moment.
Egotistical means excessively conceited or absorbed in oneself; self-centered.
We tend to think of this as a bad thing because of the word “excessive”. But let’s just look at the word ego by itself for a minute.
Ego means a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance.
Whats wrong with having self esteem? Don’t we need to feel at least some love for ourselves in order to keep going each day? So why do we shy away from the word ego? Why are we scared of this inner power we all have?
That’s the thing about Leo’s, they aren’t egotistical jerks that only care about themselves. They are proud beings, whose sense of self is so strong that it makes others uncomfortable sometimes.
Summary
We all have Leo in our charts somewhere, and even if you are a Leo Sun who has felt a lack of self esteem lately, here is your sign to boost your self up again. Learn your strengths, honor your confidence, listen to your ego, and roar! These Leo drummers don’t shy away from their pure creative selves. Instead, they show up as they are and they lay down the beats we all need to hear.
In essence, Leo drummers are creative, passionate, and playful. So now that you’ve gotten a deeper dive into a couple of them, it’s time to explore the list of Leo drummers and listen to the playlist. Know of any Leo drummers that are not in this post?
