Looking for a Scorpio Drummers playlist to rock out to? Or are you more interested in learning about Chad Smith and Travis Barkers astrological charts and drumming styles? Either way, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we will take a closer look at these Scorpio drummers and how Mars influences their individual styles.
But first, take a look at these common Scorpio keywords, to help remind you of the natural Scorpio energy these drummers posses as you read on.

Punk & Alternative Rock
Punk rock is “a loud, fast-moving, and aggressive form of rock music, popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s.” Alternative rock “blends elements of conventional rock with influences from other musical styles (such as punk rock, hard rock, hip-hop, or folk)”. So it’s only natural that this Scorpio Drummers Playlist is full of punk and alternative rock drummers.
First of all, did you know that every zodiac sign has a ruling planet? This essentially means that the planet has influence over the zodiac sign. Traditionally, Scorpio is ruled by Mars – the planet of action and aggression (AKA the punk rock planet). With this in mind, let’s take a closer look at a couple of our Mars ruled Scorpio drummers and their birth charts.
Chad Smith 10-25-1961 (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

As we can see, Chad is a Scorpio rising. As a Scorpio rising, this means that his chart ruler is Mars – which is prominently placed in his first house. The first house is the house of identity, so when someone has planets here, they tend to embody the energy of these planets. Mars is known for being quick moving and action packed, which we can see Chad embodying in this video about his audition with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Listen to Chads drumming style in this video of By the Way from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This song is great because there are soft parts followed by loud, heavy toms and bass. The quick shifts and intensity that Chad brings to the drums is powerful and can be attributed to his Mars in Scorpio in the first house. Also, with Neptune in the mix, we can hear an extra depth within his drumming that not all drummers can reach. To touch the depth of the beat, then bring it back out and rest while the guitar takes over, is impressive.
Travis Barker 11-14-1975 (Blink 182)

Like Chad Smith, Travis also has Mars in the first house; however, Travis has Cancer rising rather than Scorpio rising. This provides some similarities, but also differentiates their drumming styles. Cancer is a water sign like Scorpio, but Cancer is ruled by the Moon rather than Mars. This means Cancer is more moody and sensitive. Sure, Scorpio can be sensitive, but Scorpio is sensitive in an intense Martian way. Cancer is sensitive in a cyclical, Moon type of way.
With this in mind, we know that Travis is the epitome of a punk rock drummer. I like how in this video of teens reacting to Blink 182, the teens mention the word angsty a few times. Mark doesn’t seem to like the term angsty in relation to Blink 182, but I believe there is some truth to this – specifically for Travis. Mars in Cancer is the combination of action and aggression + compassion and moodiness. There is some contradiction inherent in this placement, which can lead to angst. Not to mention, his Mars is trine Uranus in Scorpio, and Uranus is the planet of eccentricity and rebellion. One of the teens in the video above says “It’s so angsty. Well not that angsty, it’s just fun and rebellious”
With Scorpio in the fifth house (the house of fun and entertainment), we can see that Travis has a lot of fun drumming. With his North Node conjunct his Sun in Scorpio in the fifth house, it is clear that he was meant to do this. To be honest, this Scorpio drummers playlist is my favorite of all of the drummers playlists because of the fun songs Travis provides us with. He doesn’t just focus on traditional rock n roll, he brings rock n roll to rap and pop music as well. Check out this video of Travis drumming to Lil Nas X’s song, INDUSTRY BABY.
