Capricorn Drummers Playlist

There are many different routes to go when writing about the Capricorn drummers in this playlist. I could highlight some great Capricorn jazz drummers like Max Roach, Gene Krupa, and Butch Ballard. Or I could highlight great classic rock Capricorn drummers like Cozy Powell, Lars Ulrich, Tommy Clufetos, and Aynsley Dunbar. Instead of picking an over arching genre though, I’m going to highlight a few of my favorite Capricorn drummers and explore what draws these individuals into the art of drumming.

Emmy’s Favorite Capricorn Drummers

Josh Freese 12-25-1972 (Paramore, The Offspring, Devo, Nine Inch Nails, and more)

Oh Josh Freese. This Capricorn drummer, tripped me up when creating these playlists. Many songs that I thought were drummed by someone else, were in fact drummed by Josh Freese. For example, 3 Doors Down had an Aquarius and Pisces Drummer; however, some of my favorite 3 Doors Down songs actually had Josh Freese drumming on the track. Josh Freese gets around, and I love this for him. Capricorns are stereo-typically known as the bosses of the zodiac, and it’s because they work their asses off – I mean, look at Josh’s discography.

Of the many projects Josh has been a part of, my favorite by far is The Offspring’s Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace – specifically the song Stuff is Messed Up. Every time I listen to this album, I’m transported back to high school when I would ride to school with my sister and brother in law. Talking was not an option in the car, only playing The Offspring loudly and on repeat was allowed.

Although that’s my favorite album, Josh Freese drums on so many great albums. If you see any missing from this playlist, please comment below and I will get them added.

Dave Grohl 1-14-1969 (Nirvana)

Did you know Dave Grohl is more than just the front man for The Foo Fighters? He was also a drummer for Nirvana. Check out young Dave in this video, Smells Like Teen Spirit.

While looking at Dave’s natal chart, we can see the front man persona in his Libra tenth house, but to me – that’s not what makes Dave so great. With his moon in the twelfth house (trine his North Node in Aries in the fourth house), he is more of a quiet nurturing soul.

For me, the drumming planet is the warrior planet Mars, and with Mars in Scorpio on his MC in the eleventh house – Dave is known for being a powerhouse drummer.

As you can see from this Howard Stern interview, Dave was not one to steal the show though. In Nirvana, Dave was there for the good of the group (eleventh house).

What stands out for you in Dave’s chart? I’d love to know in the comments below!
