Emmy’s Favorite Aquarius Drummers
Questlove (The Roots): January 20th, 1971
Birth Chart Bonus

As a Saturnian Aquarius drummer, Questlove’s internal clock is magical. According to this Vanity Fair interview, he literally wakes up at 6:23 am every single day and writes about his dreams. 6:23. Not 6 am, not 6:30 ish; but Questlove wakes up at 6:23 am every single day. This fact immediately drew me towards his Midheaven (MC) and Imum Coeli (IC) at six degree’s Pisces and Virgo, and his North Node and South Node at twenty three degree’s Aquarius and Leo.
With his MC in Pisces and his IC in Virgo, Questlove has this duality of a set routine, but also a fluid process within it. His Virgo IC placement helps contain his day within a strict time frame, as Virgo is a detail-oriented, habitual sign. On the other hand, his Pisces MC placement provides a fluidity that keeps things interesting, like when he listens to 100 different songs on his ride to work every morning. In a Virgo way, he categorizes each song into daytime and nighttime playlists; but in a Pisces way, he chooses to listen to a wide variety of artists and genres, so that every ride is unique and creatively impactful.
With his North Node in Aquarius and his South Node in Leo, he is drawn to research rabbit holes on a daily basis. Between his podcast and philanthropic DJ gigs, Questlove has a natural curiosity about people, which allows him to produce quality content for all of us to enjoy. We can see this reflected in his chart, as Aquarius is associated with philanthropy and community, while Leo is associated with flair and a quality style.
Anderson .Paak (Silk Sonic): February 8th, 1986
Anderson .Paak is not just a singer (also found in this Big List of Aquarius Artists), but also a skilled drummer. Singing and drumming at the same time takes a special kind of person. It’s like when someone asks you to pat your head and rub your tummy, not everyone can do it. This Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals: NPR Tiny Desk Concert video proves that Anderson is a force to be reckoned with on the drums.
While we don’t know Anderson’s birth time and can’t get an accurate chart, we do know that the eclectic Aquarius energy is strong in him. From this Hot Ones interview, we can see that Anderson is inventive with his music. He tells Sean that he wanted to take songs that were considered alternative and change them into something more soulful. He also talks about how in the 50s, white people took songs from black artists and all of a sudden, those white versions of the songs were on the radio and were considered Rock n’ Roll. Because of this, early on in his career, Anderson chose to go against the grain and flip Rock n’ Roll back into soul.
Side note: can we point out that “Breezy Lovejoy” is such an air sign name to go by? I mean, come on.
Taylor Hawkins 2-17-1972 (The Foo Fighters)
What can I say about Taylor Hawkins that hasn’t already been said? In fact, I’m late getting this post out because I didn’t want to sum up Taylor Hawkins drumming and Aquarian energy in one section of a post. I’m watching his tribute concert as we speak, and it is just a beautiful summation of friendship, love of music, and kick ass drumming. Aquarius is associated with groups and friendship, so seeing all of his friends and colleagues come together to celebrate his life is powerful. But the most powerful point of this whole concert is when his son Shane (a Leo) comes on stage and drums with the Foo Fighters. Leo is the opposite sign of Aquarius, and we can see how Taylor’s son Shane was able to use his Leo-ness to provide a dominating and impactful performance that balanced the emotional moments of remembrance.
It’s no secret, Taylor Hawkins was a legend behind the drums. As he says in this Loudwire video, he sat behind the drums and immediately found his purpose. Taylor wasn’t just an Aquarius drummer who played with the Foo Fighters, rather he was an Aquarius drummer who jammed with everyone and straight up loved good music. Rest in Peace Taylor Hawkins.

Summary
As you can see, these Aquarius drummers are groovy, funky, eclectic, and fun. Of all of the drummers playlists, this is up there as one of my favorites simply because of the way the music flows together, despite the unique individuality of each drummer. Aquarius is an enigma because although they are an air sign, they are the water bearer of the zodiac. This means they know how to flow with life’s energy; but not just flow, they create. Aquarius drummers create the energy while everyone else in the band flows with them.
