Mars Retrograde in Aries 2020

Mars Retrograde in Aries Text; Sunset Background, Silhouette of Person Punching

Wow. What a year it’s been. And it isn’t over yet! I don’t mean to be ominous, but look around. To think that all of this chaos and confusion is going to be swept away in 2021, is just a fantasy. Some deep stuff has come to the surface and is being addressed in the streets, but until we start listening to each other, it’s only going to get uglier. I say this to keep it as real as I possibly can. For my own sanity’s sake. I’m not a fortune teller so I could be wrong. If some big rainbows, unicorns, and butterflies want to sweep us into 2021, I will gladly be wrong! Bring it on!

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

I feel like Lemony Snickett right now. If you’re looking for rainbows and butterflies, you may want to find another blog post to read. That just isn’t what we’re going to talk about here.

As I write this, I think about my feelings. And you may be thinking, ‘Yuck! Selfish feelings? No thanks.’ But it is important to take this major Mars in Aries transit to be selfish and reflect on our selves for a minute. For me, it’s extremely hard to talk to people right now. Mars is retrograde over my 2nd and 3rd house (the house of Possessions and house of Communication). I am doing some deep reflecting on what I value most, along with how I communicate that with others. Now, I know I have strong opinions about the political and social events that are happening in the world right now, as does everyone else; but, I don’t feel like those closest to me share my views or are really hearing me when I talk about them, and that’s scary. Major misunderstood energy is in the air. So to anyone reading this, thank you so much for giving me an outlet and listening to me.

Enough about me, already! What are we going to cover in this post?

Oh right, the good old Mars Rx in Aries Transit that’s occurring September 9th 2020 through November 13th 2020

What Does It Mean to Have Mars in Aries?

Mars is the planet of action, desire, and war

Aries is the zodiac sign of aggression, self belief, and willpower

Pretty powerful combination we have here!

So What About Mars Retrograde?

Remember retrogrades are for reflecting on and reevaluating these themes. Mars has been making it’s way through Aries since June 27th 2020, so think back to what’s been going on in your life since June and apply it to these themes:

Aggression & Action

Have you been acting out aggressively? Or have you been feeling depleted from all the aggression going on around you? Or maybe you have experienced a combination of both?

It has been an emotionally, physically, and spiritually exhausting year. Reflect on where specifically in your life you have been feeling exhaustion and burn out. If you have been acting aggressively or feel pent up rage inside you, don’t shame yourself for it. Just take this time to reflect on the reasons why. What have you been doing these past few months? Are you protecting your energy? Does the rage inside you feel out of your control? How can you channel this aggression into affirmative action? And if you are someone who is feeling depleted from all of the aggressive action that is occurring in the world right now, don’t worry about that either! You are not weak for taking some reclusive time away to regain energy. You are not weak for avoiding fighting and war. Emotions are extremely high right now and confusion is in the air along with a major lack of safety and security reassurance from our government. Reflect on how this pandemic is making you feel and trust that whatever that feeling is, it’s valid. No need to take action on these feelings…just reflect.

Desire & Self Belief

What about your personal desires? Have any of these changed for you over the past few months? Where’s your confidence level lately? Do you believe in your ability to manifest your desires? Or are you feeling depleted here as well?

Just because it’s a pandemic and Mars is retrograde, doesn’t mean you have to give up on your personal goals. In fact, Mars Retrograde in Aries is a great time to reevaluate your deepest desires. The world is constantly changing (even more rapidly this year), and if this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we have to get creative in order to get shit done like we used to. Has this pandemic put a damper on your dreams? Is it making them impossible to achieve right now? Or do you just need to find other, more creative ways of achieving these dreams? Maybe now is not the best time to act on your dreams. This doesn’t mean that you are useless or doomed. This could just mean that your time is coming, but you have other things to do first. It is important to believe in yourself and always keep your desires in mind when dancing through life, even if that thing you desired pre-pandemic is not be sustainable at this time. Don’t give up on it, just pivot for now. Maybe the new thing you pivot towards will actually be the thing you were dreaming of all along?

War & Willpower

What about your will to fight? If you are out in the streets fighting, ask yourself what it is that you’re fighting for. Have your priorities shifted since June 27th? Are you still fighting the same fight, or is it bigger now? On the other hand, if you’re bothered by war, ask yourself why. Do you understand why people are out there fighting, or do you think the message is unclear? Have you ever had to fight for fair treatment or your right to live equally among your peers? Have you ever mustered up the willpower to stand up against a force that was bigger than yourself?

It’s OK if your priorities have shifted. You are not a robot. You are a human being with a complex mind that is persuaded by it’s environment. Look around you for a second. Really take this time to stop and get clear on what it is you’re fighting for. While it’s noble to fight for the benefit of other people, that is not what Mars Retrograde in Aries is asking us to do right now. Think about what you are personally fighting for. Aries rules the self, and without taking time to nourish yourself, you cannot fight effectively for others. Without having a clear vision of the future you want to see for yourself, your fight ultimately becomes unheard and misunderstood. So keep asking yourself, what are YOU fighting for? What is your motivation? What gets you out of bed in the morning? Willpower comes from the fire deep inside you. Willpower is inside all of us. Reconnect with this fire inside, because the fight is not over.

For those against the war we are experiencing in the streets, put yourself in someone else’s shoes. What would you do if you were rejected by society your whole life? Would you actually listen to these people if they were peacefully expressing their unfair treatment to you? Have you been listening these past few years? Because people have been talking. People have needed our help, acceptance, and even simply needed us to lend them our ears and let them know we see them, feel them, and hear them. This battle is not new.

Please understand, this is not me promoting violence and war. There are non-physically violent moving pieces to this war that are important as well. The violent parts just happen to be the loudest. Remember good old Aries (the self) is in Mars (action); when we fight with others, it is just a reflection of the parts of our selves that we are fighting within.

“If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn’t part of ourselves doesn’t disturb us.”

Herman Hesse

This Mars in Aries transit is all about reflecting and getting clear on your individuality and understanding your birth rights as humans. Just take a step back and surrender to the retrograde.

Ask yourself the questions outlined above but most importantly, take care of yourself, so you can take care of your neighbors. This virus isn’t gonna stop with all of us refusing to take care of ourselves or hold ourselves accountable for our own actions. Slow down, reflect, renew, restore, reinvent, rejuvenate, reduce, reuse, recycle, retrograde man! Welcome this time of Mars in Aries retrograde with open arms; we’re all in this together.
